About Inline Writing Tutor
Inline is an AI writing tutor built by Alexandr Tkachyov, a Lafayette College student in Easton, Pennsylvania. It helps students examine their ideas and make their own revision decisions.
Why questions belong beside the writing
A student can read a comment such as “explain more” and still be unsure what to do next. Inline connects feedback to the passage that prompted it and asks a question the writer can work through.
The aim is to make the next revision easier to reason about. Students bring the ideas and write the draft; Inline helps them examine an argument, its evidence, and the explanation connecting them. See a real feedback example.
A student project growing through classroom use
Inline won first place and the Audience Choice Award at Lafayette College’s April 2026 Big Idea Pitch Competition. The Lehigh Valley Economic Development Corporation covered the competition.
Inline is in open beta. Professors can discuss a course pilot, give students access, and review how deliberately submitted work developed. Read about course pilots and institutional access or follow the product updates.
The current pilot scope is seven professors teaching more than 150 students. The evaluation questions are whether students make useful revisions and whether professors find the feedback helpful. These figures describe the pilot’s scope, rather than active usage or established learning gains.
Writing, feedback, and responsibility
Inline is designed to support a student’s thinking without writing the essay for them. Feedback can be incomplete or mistaken, and students should follow their course’s AI policy and check the evidence they use.
Inline selects the model and controls feedback instructions and validation. Modal processes requested writing and relevant history through its managed GLM endpoint in a global compute pool; it does not store inference payloads, and Inline does not authorize training on service requests. Private drafts stay with their owner until deliberate sharing or submission. Course submissions include the linked draft’s full saved history, feedback, Brainstorming questions, and recorded writing activity. The app privacy policy explains the details.
